The commission works in close contact with public institutions, public funds, work collectives, also studies and takes into account public opinion. The commission is assembled in case of necessity, and its composition is partially supplemented every year in order to take into account the city’s opinion on the issues of cultural heritage. In 2016, a deputy of the City Duma, the founder of the charitable foundation “Kindness”, Alexander Zhukov joined it.

One of the main statements of the commission is to promote the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the city, and also to develop different statements on various cultural issues to consider them on the city administration and the Municipal Council levels. At the first meeting of 2016, there were taken up 10 issues and proposals, most of which were about the installation of monuments and memorial plaques.

Some statements have already been discussed at previous meetings. So this time the sketch of the memorial plaque to the professor Borisovich Yuri Grigorievich of VSU was approved, which will be placed on the facade of 19 Teatralnaya street building. There were also made decisions upon the installation of the memorial plaques to the memory of Nikolay II’s visit to Voronezh in 1914, the academician Basov Nikolai Gennadievich, the martyr Ismail Bazilevsky, the honorable citizen of Voronezh Peskov Vasily Mikhailovich.

More than that, it was also decided to install a bust to the Hero of the Soviet Union, Andrei Mikhailovich Serebryakov, who died on July 27, 1942 in an attempt to break through the enemy’s defense and take the highway from Voronezh to the village of Podkletnoye (now the district of the Northern part of the city). The Serebryakov’s tank was hit and caught fire, but the second lieutenant of state security continued to fire and was burnt in a tank. The bust will be installed in the Voronezh Central Park near the monument on the bed of honor №13 where he is buried.

The recommendations on the establishment of some other memory signs were made and their discussion will be continued at the next meeting.
