The opening and consecration of the church in honor of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious was held in Voronezh on November 24. The church was built in one of the old districts of Voronezh on Zagorodnaya Street. Most of the people here are elderly ones, for whom church is an important part of life. Nevertheless, there were many believers of different ages, married couples and young mothers with little children were among them, at the consecration of the new church. It is not surprising, the church is a place where they can turn thoughts to God, talk about their feelings, pray for health and well-being of their loved ones.
The Church of St. Great Martyr St. George was built with the help of the well-known Voronezh Foundation “Kindness”. Its leader, Alexander Zhukov, does a lot for the Voronezh, and the construction of the church turned out to be a real gift.
The place, where the church is built, used to be a small house, where a friendly Christian family lived, in this very place was born a priest, archbishop Tikhon of Novosibirsk and Berdsk. In 2004, the archbishop’s family decided to donate this plot to the construction of the church.
When Alexander Zhukov was asked to take part in the construction of the church, he answered undoubtedly. When the construction of the church was completed the head of the fund “Kindness”, for sure, could not help but be present at its consecration.
The Foundation “Kindness”, which is led by Alexander Zhukov, really did a lot for the church. Funds were used for preparatory work on the plot: old trees were cut out, stumps were uprooted. With the help of the Foundation, the iconostasis and the landscaping around the church were also supported by the Foundation. The bells of the belfry were also presented by the “Kindness”.
