Strong in Spirit: International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated in Voronezh

Charity foundation “Kindness” has been helping hold the festive events for 15 years. International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated on the 5th of December in Voronezh. Café “The 17th District» was the place where the official part of the event took part. There were 100 people or so who attended the meeting.

«The meeting festival»

Tatiana Chursina, Chairman of the Voronezh City Public Organization of Disabled Persons and Parents of Disabled Children with cerebral palsy “Nadezhda”:

– According to a long-established tradition, every year we gather in early December to sum up, share our impressions. We call this day “The meeting festival”. I have been working as chairman of the organization for more than 10 years and Alexander Alekseevich Zhukov has been helping us all these years. We are very grateful for his attention and care!

There are only 150 people who work in this organization. The biggest aim of it is to provide employment for persons with disabilities. There are workshops guided by “Nadezhda”: wood carving, sewing and pottery workshops.

– Recently we have been asked to make bed linen. The guys will sew and get paid for it! It is almost impossible for them to find a job on the open market – there is no such quick response, – says Tatiana Chursina.

“There should be no difference.”

The Kindness Foundation traditionally prepared sweets and gifts for the participants of the event.

– There should be no differences between people. Such events serve to meet specific social and sociological needs of people, they unite and bring together. Not all of them can make friends because of their peculiarities, but being here is a good chance for them to make new acquaintances, – says Alexander Zhukov, the founder of the Charity foundation “Kindness”.
